This exhibition documents the artistic production related to the Franciscan order from XIII to XV century. Extraordinary paintings, sculptures and goldsmith's art feature in the Accademia Gallery in Florence. They witness the formidable envangelization activites of the Order in the Holy Land, Asia and China.

A photographic exhibition on the Franciscans of the Holy Land. The exhibit has been set up thanks to a recent discovery of unknown photographic materials found in the Archive of the Order of the Friars Minor in Rome dating ca. 1885-1887.

Tower of King David Museum, Jerusalem - Jerusalem: A Medical Diagnosis

Jerusalem: A Medical Diagnosis takes a broad and original look at the “medical record” of Jerusalem, examining the human struggle for a healthy life in the unique context of the holy city. The exhibition shows how the holiness and status of Jerusalem brought streams of pilgrims, priests, scholars and travelers to its gates. Many of them needed medical services while others provided medical relief. It focuses on the remedies that were invented along with wonder drugs and potions.

This exhibit showcases five paintings in canvas and one silver relief in Neapolitan Baroque style. These magnificent works of art were donated by the Kingdom of Naples and Spain to the Custody of the Holy Land in the 16th and 17th century.
The paintings were executed by some of the most celebrated artists from Naples in that era. Two of them come from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and had never left Jerusalem before.
Pieces on loan: Three paintings by Francesco de Mura, and one by each the Master of the Annunciation and Paolo de Matteis, as well as a silver relief attributed to the de Blasio workshop.

The exhibition presents 250 unknown masterpieces from one of the last treasures of the Occident, the treasure of the Holy Sepulchre. Sent to the basilica of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem by the principal European rulers, some of these extraordinay works of art are revealed for the first time to the public.
The visitor will discover these sumptuous gifts which are unique in the world. Displayed according to their origin, they show how the different European rulers rivalled each other in generosity to enhance the splendour of the Treasure of the Holy Sepulchre. The immense power of fascination and attraction of Jerusalem arise from this exhibition as well as the diplomatic, political and religious stakes involved.

Palazzo Reale, Milan - In Terrasanta dalla Crociata alla Custodia dei Luoghi Santi

Starting from the complex relations between Christians and Muslims during the Crusaders' period, the exhibit focuses on the history of the Franciscans of the Holy Land after the meeting of St. Francis with Sultan Malik al-Kamil in 1219. Thanks to various agreements with the Ottoman Empire, the Franciscan friars were the only Western order to stay uninterruptedly in the Holy Land, together with the Oriental Christian communities.
Sculptures, frescoes fragments, liturgilcal objects and other preciosu items illustrate famous Holy Places such as the Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth, the Holy Sepulchre, the sanctuary of St. Lazarus in Bethany, the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem and various sanctuaris of the Getshemane.
